Under Michigan MCL 257.657a, a village, city, or township under 65,000 population may by resolution allow golf carts on its streets; the cart may not exceed 15 mph and may not use roads posted over 30 mph except to cross, and operation is barred from a half hour before sunset to a half hour after sunrise. The operator must be at least 16 and licensed to drive, and a golf cart operated under this section is not required to be registered (and thus not subject to the no-fault insurance mandate).
