Street Legal Golf Carts in Arkansas

Are golf carts street legal in Arkansas?

Arkansas golf carts are not street legal statewide; a municipality may authorize golf carts on its city streets by ordinance (Ark. Code Ann. Sec. 14-54-1410), and they may never be operated on any street designated as a federal highway, state highway, or county road. Low-speed vehicles (defined at Ark. Code Ann. Sec. 23-112-103 as a four-wheeled vehicle capable of 20-25 mph and under 3,000 lbs GVWR) are recognized and, to use public roads, must be registered and titled, carry liability insurance, and be operated by a licensed driver; the primary source does not state a maximum posted road speed for LSV operation. Verify with the Arkansas DMV (Office of Motor Vehicle / Dept. of Finance & Administration).

This is a plain-language summary, not legal advice — golf-cart and LSV rules change and vary by city and county. Confirm the current requirements with the Arkansas DMV before you buy or drive. What makes a golf cart street legal.
